How Middle Mates began

Middle Mates was born out of a very real, very practical problem.

Our son Lloyd is growing just like every other kid.
But when it came to nappies, the options stopped long before his needs did.

As Lloyd got older and bigger, we found ourselves stuck in a gap no one seemed to be talking about. Standard nappies stopped at sizes that simply didn’t work anymore. Products that did exist were uncomfortable, unreliable, expensive, or clearly not designed with real children and families in mind.

And every leak, every poor fit, every awkward change was a reminder that the system wasn’t built for kids like Lloyd or parents like us.

The quiet problem no one prepares you for

When your child needs nappies beyond the toddler years, it’s rarely spoken about.

We didn’t want “good enough”.
We wanted something that actually worked.

Why we created Middle Mates

Middle Mates started because Lloyd needed bigger nappies/continence aids and because too many families were quietly dealing with the same thing.

We didn’t see nappies designed for:

• Older children

• Bigger bodies

• Real movement

• Real lives

So we decided to create them.

We’re starting with Size 8 nappies/continence aids, designed specifically for kids who have outgrown standard ranges but still deserve comfort, reliability, and care.

This isn’t about extending baby products.
It’s about designing for where families actually are.

Built with lived experience, not assumptions

Every decision behind Middle Mates comes from lived experience.

From late-night changes.
From trial-and-error with products that didn’t fit.
From conversations with other parents who said,
“Us too.”
